First mention of the Garnock
Hector Boece (1465–1536), the Scottish philosopher and historian, wrote the Historia Gentis Scotorum [History of the Scottish People], printed in 1527. In it, during his account of Ayr and Cunningham, he mentions the Garnock. This will be the first record in print of Kilbirnie Loch, here referred to as Loch Garnoth.
